metafusion's history starts with HALF of a graphite drawing based on an image of jazz great, Louis Armstrong. A morphed face begins to grow and expose a Native American looking figure with a dragonfly headdress, elements of nature, animals, eyes and abstract fluid lines all directed at the closed eyes which invoke the soul.
After completing the left half of the drawing and partially completing the right half, I didn't like where it was going. Laying to rest for awhile, I opened up the pad again and decided to scan it and make an exact symmetrical print by only using the left half.
After showing the piece at a handful of local shows, the response was well received. However, I had to explain each time that only the left half was complete and the right half was digital. Either way it was an amazing piece to see, yet it didn't settle with me very well.
After a couple of years of explaining the story, I decided to take this on and complete the entire drawing as a perfectly symmetrical original. I traced the line work for the left half again and reversed it with a light table to trace the right half. Now the linework was complete and I had to begin shading.
For anyone who has experiencing with shading, they would understand the task at hand. Shading in the left side was a normal task, yet reversing (in my mind) the shading of the mirrored side ended up being quite difficult. The intricate areas where multiple lines and shades converge had to be worked out, in reverse, in the mind before committing to paper.
The end result—a perfectly symmetrical highly detailed graphite work. Original is Not For Sale :-)
